Rose and Syl Uriguen were both born in the United States to Basque parents. Rose's mother died when she was young and she was raised in a convent. Syl's mother worked in the Telescope and Star hotels in Elko, where he was raised.

The Uriguens took over the Martin Hotel in Winnemucca in 1951, where they stayed until 1973. There are two interviews accessible through this page, one detailing the hotels in Paradise Valley, NV and the other explaining their lives in the Martin Hotel.
