BASQUE STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS 20132014 AWARD PERIOD

The Center for Basque Studies of the University of Nevada, Reno administers two scholarships for students of Basque studies, or of Basque descent, who attend this university on a full-time basis. The requirements differ for each scholarship, so please read the details given below, and indicate which scholarships you are applying for. You may apply for any or all of the scholarships, as long as you meet the eligibility requirements.

____ (1) The Dolores Saval Trigero Scholarship will be awarded to a Nevada resident of Basque descent, preferably from a rural area (excluding Reno/Sparks, Carson City, Las Vegas), and must be a fulltime student at the University of Nevada, Reno. However, if no suitable rural Nevada student of Basque descent is eligible, students of Basque descent from urban areas may be awarded the scholarship, and if no Basque students are eligible, other Nevada students are considered for the award without regard to ethnicity. Applicants shall also demonstrate financial need, and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75. The award will be for the academic year beginning in fall 2013, and will be $1,000 ($500 per semester).

____ (2) The Peter Echeverria Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student of Basque descent attending the University of Nevada, Reno. First preference shall be to Nevada residents of Basque descent. However, if no suitable Nevada resident of Basque descent is eligible, students of Basque descent from other states may be awarded the scholarship. If no Basque students are eligible, other applicants are considered for the award without regard to ethnicity. Applicants shall also demonstrate financial need, and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75. The award will be for the academic year beginning in fall 2013, and will be $1,000 ($500 per semester).

To apply for any/all of these scholarships, please:

1. Fill out the application form.

2. Write a statement (under 1,000 words) describing your reasons for attending the University of Nevada, Reno, and your plans for the future. If you have decided on a plan of study at the university, please elaborate. If applying for scholarships (1) or (2), include information on your Basque ancestry, Basque cultural expression, and participation in Basque-related activities. Any other information you wish to add to support your application may be included.

3. Arrange for transcripts from your high school or college to be sent.
