The Basque Studies Program received two generous donations this year. Juanita Garat willed the program $50,000 and the Ahmanson Foundation donated $10,000. We would like to thank both the Garat family and the Ahmanson Foundation for their support. Juanita Garat attended our Summer Session Abroad in the Basque Country several years ago and has since been a strong supporter of the Basque Studies Program. The grant from the Ahmanson Foundation was made possible through the good offices of Mr. Robert Erburu, Chairman of the Board of the Times Mirror Corporation and a long-time supporter of our activities. The funds from the two donations will be used to establish a Basque Studies Endowment with the University of Nevada Foundation in order to ensure a modest, permanent income for future initiatives.
