Basque Tour Robert Fried, a professional writer and photographer who has documented Basque life, and Helene Senhaux, a native of the French Basque region with expertise in Basque cuisine and wines, plan to lead a tour of the Basque Country next spring. Featured will be art influenced by Roman and Gothic designs, traditional Basque cuisine such as triute au jambon de Bayonne (trout, white wine and ham), and a visit to the Izarra distillery, whose distillers serve a liqueur made from 54 herbs and plants. The tour will leave San Francisco/Los Angeles/New York on May 7 and return from Paris May 21, moving from Paris to the French Basque capital Bayonne, across the frontier into Spanish Basque country and San Sebastián, onward to Guernica, Oñate, Vitoria, Pamplona, St. Jean Pied-de-Port, Biarritz and back to Paris.
