Basque Parliamentarians Visit Reno Between July 17 and July 20 four representatives to the Basque Parliament and one Basque representative to the Spanish Cortes visited the Reno area as part of their broader travel itinerary in the U.S. The distinguished visitors included José Bergara Etxebarria, Deputy Spokesman for the Basque Nationalist Party in the Basque Parliament; Juan Manuel Eguiagaray Ucelay, Secretary General of the PSE-PSOE group in the Basque Parliament; Jaime Mayor Oreja, Spokesman for the Popular Coalition in the Basque Parliament; Mario Onaindia Nachiondo, Secretary General of the Euskadiko Eskerra party in the Basque Community to the Spanish Parliament. The visitors toured the Basque Studies Program, met with university officials, local business leaders, and representatives of the State of Nevada in Carson City. President Crowley and Mrs. Joy Crowley of the University of Nevada hosted a reception and dinner in their home for the guests. The Basque delegation was particularly interested in the structure of the University, the Judicial College, and state and local government. |
