University Studies in the Basque Country 1984-85

The University Studies in the Basque Country Consortium is currently organizing its second academic program in the Basque provinces of northern Spain. Similar to the 1983-84 format, the 1984-85 program will consolidate the Hispanic and Basque studies dimensions of the Consortium in the city of San Sebastián, located 12 miles from the French border.

The group will depart from New York on August 27 and, after spending the initial week exploring Madrid and central Spain, the students will take part in a month-long intensive language school (Basque or Spanish language) in the fishing village of Fuenterrabía. In early October the group will settle into San Sebastián for the fall and spring semesters where they will enroll in undergraduate or graduate level Basque language, anthropology, history, political science, cuisine and folkdance classes as well as a full curriculum of Spanish language, literature and culture.

Since enrollment has been strong and the program is assured of taking place as planned, the May 1 deadline has been waived and applications will be accepted through July. We would, however, encourage interested individuals to write as soon as possible, in order that the proper arrangements may be made. Cost of the fall semester is $3,086 and for the full academic year $4,511. This amount includes tuition and fees, excursions, student insurance and identification and entry to some museums and cultural events. Airfare from New York is included and special add-on fares will be available to and from the point of departure. University financial aid and some scholarships are available.

The University Studies in the Basque Country academic program, a consortium project of Boise State University, the University of Nevada Las Vegas and the University of Nevada Reno, is open to university students throughout the United States. For an information packet, please contact:
