Douglass of the Basque Studies Program and Phil Earl of the Nevada Historical Society. Chicago Sculpture International From May 10 to May 15 representative works of three contemporary Basque sculptors – Nestor Basterrechea, Vicente Larrea and Remigio Mendiburu – were displayed at Navy Pier in Chicago as part of the Chicago Sculpture International art show. The three sculptors were in attendance. On Saturday, May 12 there was a public lecture and forum at the Art Institute of Chicago. The program was moderated by Professor Emilia Doyaga. Professor Leonard Bloom spoke about the work of Nestor Basterrechea, Professor Ignacio Galbis discussed Vicente Larrea’s art and Professor Terence Wilbur lectured on Remigio Mendiburu’s sculptures. Persons in the audience then questioned the sculptors about their work. The successful Chicago event was sponsored by the Basque Government in cooperation with the Society of Basque Studies in America. |
