A Publication of Interest

A complete new Atlas Electoral del País Vasco y Navarra has been published by the Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas in Madrid. Edited by Juan Linz, Manuel Gómez Reino, Darío Vila and Francisco A. Orizo with the assistance of the technical staff of DATA, S.A., the Atlas presents full results and electoral maps for all the major ballots in the Basque Country and Navarre from 1976 to 1980. This includes the referendum of 1976, the Cortes elections of 1979 and the first elections to the Basque Parliament in 1980. Results are registered for each municipio of the four provinces for each of these contests, preceded by brief political analyses of the electoral geography of the major parties, both Basque and Spanish. The volume concludes with nearly 50 colored electoral maps of the four provinces that reflect the voting strength of each of the major political forces in each contest, the results of the referenda, both pro and con, levels of participation and abstention, and results of the elections of 1933 and 1936 as well.

The Atlas Electoral constitutes a major contribution to Basque studies and to Spanish political studies generally. It will become an indispensable reference work.
