Goian Bego We were all saddened by the recent death of Beltran Paris. Funeral services were held in Sacred Heart Church of Ely, Nevada on September 28, 1982. The Paris family requested that well-wishers contribute to a memorial established in Beltran’s name with the Basque Studies Program. We wish to thank them for thinking of us in their time of grief. A Basque Studies Minor We are currently engaged in an effort to establish a Basque Studies Minor as an option within the regular curriculum of the University of Nevada Reno. Under the plan the student pursuing an undergraduate degree in any subject offered by the University would take a two year Basque language course sequence and additional credits in Basque history, anthropology, linguistics, literature, etc. He/She would require a minimum of eighteen credit hours in order to complete a minor course of study. The credits would, of course, apply towards the overall credit requirement for the undergraduate degree. We are also pursuing the possibility of instituting a nine credit graduate degree minor in Basque Studies. It is anticipated that the Basque Studies Minor will be approved and available by the fall semester beginning in September of 1983. Persons interested in further information should contact the Coordinator of the Basque Studies Program. |
