Agur

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jean Decroos. Jean died very suddenly on September 4, 1980. He is survived by his wife Carmel and a daughter Christine.

Jean worked closely with the Basque Studies during the past two years as a researcher for the study of 19th Century Basque immigration sponsored by the Spanish Treaty Grant. Jean wrote his doctoral thesis on the Basque community in San Francisco. Through his research he became acquainted with many Basques here in the west. We will all miss him.

Teresa Laxalt Memorial Scholarship

We are pleased to announce that the Teresa Laxalt Memorial Scholarships will again be available to two Nevada residents of Basque descent who plan to be undergraduates at the University of Nevada Reno during the 1981-82 academic year. The scholarships are for $600 each. For further information, write to the Basque Studies Program.

A Request

The family of Jon Oņatibia wishes to thank all those who sent expressions of sympathy.
     — Esker Onez

As many of our readers are aware, Jon Oņatibia taught the Basque language course, as well as the music and dance courses during our past Summer Session Abroad programs. His enthusiasm inspired everyone who worked with him.

Several students who have accompanied the Basque Studies Program on its Summer Session Abroad have suggested that a scholarship be offered for the 1981 Session in memory of Jon Oņatibia.

We think that is a fine idea and would like any who wish to so honor Jon to make contributions toward the scholarship.
