1978 Basque Studies Summer Session Abroad

Dates:
June 20 - August 23 (classes in session June 23 - August 4, inclusive).

Costs:*
$1600 (includes round-trip air fare from Oakland to Paris, in-transit expenses to the Basque country, instructional costs, excursions, room & board for duration of session, but not during period set aside for independent travel following classes and before the return charter flight).

$1000 (for those with their own travel arrangements - includes instructional costs, excursions, and room & board for period June 22 to August 5).

 
*Probable cost as of March; dollar fluctuation may result in slight increase.

Courses:
(all University of Nevada, Reno courses)
1. Elementary Basque (FLL 150B). 4 credits.
2. Basque History (History 428/628). 3 credits.
3. Old World Basque Culture (Anthropology/Basque 366/566). 3 credits.
4. Introduction of Basque Linguistics (Anthropology/Basque 455/655). 3 credits.
5. Independent Study (FLL 495/695B). 1 credit. The focus of this course will be on the language of the Basque folksong.

Instruction is in English. Courses, with the exception of elementary Basque, may be taken for graduate or undergraduate credit. All courses may be audited. A maximum of seven semester credits may be earned.

Excursions:
There will be excursions to historical sites and other points of interest throughout the Basque country, and the group will attend local festivals, including the famed festival of San Fermín in Pamplona. There will be a number of guest lectures and sporting and cultural events. Instruction in folk dancing and singing will be available for those who desire it.

July 6 - July 8: Tour of Navarra, San Fermín
July 8 - July 18: Amorebieta (Vizcaya), Spain
July 18 - August 5: Loyola (Guipúzcoa), Spain
