N.A.B.O. Visits the Basque Studies Program Many of the delegates in Reno for the March 12th meeting of the North American Basque Organization visited the office and library of the Basque Studies Program that morning. They were welcomed by Program staff and given a brief introduction to the Basque Collection by Professor Jon Bilbao and William A. Douglass. Many of the rare items in this library, the largest collection in the Western Hemisphere of materials relating to the Basques, were shown. The delegates also had the opportunity to look over some of the current periodicals, received by the library, and its many volumes, many of especial interest to some (e.g., music, cuisine, history, sports, and genealogy). Afterwards they were taken on tour of the spacious new quarters, still unfinished a that time, which the Program will occupy in the new addition of the university library. The slide/tape program on the Basque country which was produced by the Program with partial support from N.A.B.O. was shown and refreshments served. Since then we have moved into these new quarters. Our location is now on the top floor of Getchell Library, in room 274; our new phone number is (702) 784-4854. We hope all our friends will find occasion to come visit us in our new home. |
